Determination of inorganic element differences between male and female of a water beetle species, Agabus bipustulatus (Dytiscidae : Coleoptera) by WDXRF analyses
Özet
In this investigation, concentrations of 33 different inorganic elements in male and female of Agabus bipustulatus collected in different regions of four cities in Turkey were measured by wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WDXRF) spectrometry. Copper and Caesium concentrations were statistically significant between male and female of Agabus bipustulatus. We hypothesize that metabolic differences between males and females of an insect species cause these differences in concentrations. In addition. we suggest that the inorganic element content in an insect body can indicate the composition of those elements in their habitats.
