MESNEVİ’DE HZ. NUH VE NUH’UN GEMİSİ

The Mongol empire, playing an important role in the history of the world, has entered into war with many states to expand its borders under the leadership of its founder Timuçin and Iran has received its share from the oncoming Mongol attacks. Bahâeddin Veled, the father of Mevlâna, one of the elders of Balkh, had to migrate from here with his family because of the personal reasons and the upcoming Mongol attack and invasion. During this migration, he visited Nişâbûr and Baghdad, and after he fulfilled the Pilgrim duties in Hijaz, he went to Anatolia and settled in Konya after a while in Karaman with his family. This immigration made from Balkh to Konya is the most important achievement of both Turkish and Iranian and even world literature, the works of Mavlana written here, and certainly the most important of them is the six-volume work called Mathnawi which reflects his views on life and mysticism, . This unique work has affected many poets and writers in Iran and, if necessary, in Turkish literature; commentary on the work, nazires made; it preserved its importance and value not only in the period it was written but even today. The tale of Noah which is commonly used in both Persian literature and Turkish literature and the Biblical flood has a significant place in Mevlana’s great work Mathnevi. Noah became prophet after Prophet Idris. He invited his people for ages with a great patience and his people did not believe in him. Noah prayed Allah to perish his people. Allah inspired him to build an Ark and to staff it with two couples from all creatures and his believers. When heavy rains started and water flushed from a witch’s streams, all creatures were drowned apart from those who boarded with Noah. It is possible to categorize the treatment of this story in Mathnevi as Noah, his family, his people, Noah’s ark and the Biblical flood. It has been discussed in Mathnevi about Noah’s lif that he lived for almost nine hundred years, he invited his people to the right way, his patience and prayers, his denier wife Vahile and his denier son Ken’an. In addition, Noah’s Ark, his people and the Biblical flood have been mentioned in details. Incidents such as Noah’s Ark, its construction, that t is a shelter for the believers are used to tell that Noah’s son Ken’an would not get on the ark and got drowned and as well as for some similes.
