Özet

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency of the elite volleyball player's jumping and

landing techniques in the spike and block in terms of playing positions. Considering the success of the

Voleyball Turkish National Team in this championship, which has been the first great success in its

history, it is thought that the study will make an important contribution to the literature. In this study,

the footages of semi-final and final matches played by the Turkish National Team in the Women's

European Volleyball Championship in 2003 were used. The match footages used to collect the data in

the study were shot by TRT (Turkish Radio and Television Corporation) cameras on the volleyball

court. The observations were recorded by means of watching the footages. Each activity was

categorized by the jump type (spike or block) and phase (jumping or landing). The phase was subcategorized by the foot usage (left foot, right foot or double foot). The results of the study were analyzed

using SPSS statistical package program., Crosstab was chosen as the analysis tool. Based on the results,

it was found that the double foot jumping and landing was the most used jumping and landing

technique. It was observed that while in 7% of the positions the right or left foot was used for jumping,

in 14% of them the right or left foot was used for landing. The right foot was used only in the zone 2.

While the blocks were performed the most in the zone 2, the spikes were performed the most in the

zone 4. The rate of jumping and landing on the left foot in the attack and block was higher than that on

the right foot. It was thought that this result was due the fact that most of the volleyball players used

their right hand. The landings on one-foot were observed only after the spike and 100% of the block

landings were on the double foot.
