The Effect of Mistletoe (Viscum album L.) Extracts Collected from Mahaleb Tree on Meloidogyne javanica Larvae

Meloidogyne
javanica is one of the most important nematode species that
cause yield losses in crop plants. This species is common in vegetable
production areas in Turkey. In this study, the effect of
mistletoe (Viscum album L.) extracts collected from mahaleb tree against M. javanica larvae under in vitro
conditions was determined. In the experiment, the stems and
leaves of the mistletoe were dried separately and their water extracts were
prepared. 1 ml of 5%, 7.5% and 10% doses was applied to Petri dishes involving
100 larvae. Petri dishes were examined under the microscope 2, 12,
24 and 48 hours after the applications and dead-live individuals were counted.
The
highest mortality rate was observed in the mistletoe stem extract after 2
hours, and the mortality rates were determined as 30%, 19% and 17% at 10%, 7.5%
and 5% doses, respectively. After the applications, it was determined that all
the doses were effective against M.
javanica. Consequently, it is thought that mistletoe stem
extract can be included in the integrated pest management (IPM) against M. javanica.<o:p></o:p>
