Özet

Aim: This study was aimed to determine the effectiveness of Herniaria Argea and Herniaria Hirsuta plant extracts on diabetic wound healing.

Materials and Methods: This study was carried out within the framework of experimental protocol approved by Atatürk University Animal Experiments Local Ethics

Committee (HADYEK) (2021/162). Diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal administration of 60 mg/kg Streptozotocin to 14 Wistar rats obtained from the Medical Experimental

and Application Research Center. Four circular wound areas with a diameter of 1 cm2 were created for each animal, two on the left and right of the vertebral

line. For local healing of wounds, physiological saline [negative control (NK)], fito cream [positive control (PK)], Herniaria Argea (HA) and Herniaria Hirsuta (HH) extracts

were applied for 7 days. Wound area measurement was performed on the 4th and 7th day, and histopathological scoring and biochemical analyzes were performed

on the 7th day.

Results: As a result of the macroscopic measurement, the group with the lowest wound area on the 7th day was PK (0.42±0.17 cm2), followed by HA (0.64±0.25 cm2),

NK (0.66±0.18 cm2) and HH (0.74±0.36 cm2) groups. Angiogenesis and collagenization formation were higher in PK and HA groups compared to the other groups.

Superoxide Dismutase (25.89±0.8 U/g), Catalase (153.15±2.7 catal/g), Malodialdehyde (86.3±4 nmol/g) and Glutathione (1.69 ±0.05 nmol/g) values were found to be

more positive in the HA group than in the HH group (p<0.05).

Conclusion: Herniaria Hirsuta and Herniaria Argaea show positive effects on wound healing macroscopically, histologically and biochemically.
