Macroporous Surgical Mesh from a Natural Cocoon Composite br
Özet
Recently, traditional polymer-based surgical mesheshave drawn unwanted attention as a result of host tissuecomplications arising from infection, biocompatibility, andmechanical compatibility. Seeking an alternative solution, wepresent a hierarchically structured nanofibrous surgical meshderived from the naturally woven cocoon of the Japanese giantsilkworm, termed MothMesh. We report that it displays non-toxicity, biocompatibility, suitable mechanical properties, andporosity while showing no adverse effect in animal trials andeven appears to enhance cell proliferation. Hence, we assert thatthe use of this natural material may provide an effective andimproved alternative to existing synthetic meshes
