Eye Diseases And Treatment: Novel Ophthalmic Drug Delivery Systems
Özet
New-generation ocular drug delivery systems offer significant potential for enhancing therapeutic efficacy by providing controlled or sustained release, improved bioavailability, and fewer side and/or toxic effects with reduced dosing frequency. Significant advances are being made in the treatment of both anterior and posterior ocular disorders with new drug carriers such as inserts, implants, colloidal systems, hydrogels, lipid-based vesicular systems, nanoparticle carriers, and microneedles. Compared to traditional eye treatments, these new-generation drug delivery systems will improve patient compliance and quality of life due to improved targeting and reduced invasion.
Despite these advances, formulation stability, biocompatibility, and scale-up challenges in manufacturing processes remain significant limitations. Future efforts should focus on overcoming these limitations through multidisciplinary, solution-oriented research.
