Özet

The major earthquake’s and the field

research has shown that take place in Turkey's earthquake. Structures in Turkey

are necessary to be able to stand without collapsing in a major earthquake may

face in the future. Earthquake effects can be met by

providing permanent deformation of the structures and by increasing the lateral

rigidity and damping rate of the structures. The aim of this study is to reduce unwanted permanent deformations by

placing infill walls without causing an irregularity in the structure, and to

meet the effects of earthquakes by increasing the lateral stiffness and damping

ratio of the structure. It is anticipated that the first

elements to receive damage during an earthquake are the infill walls and thus

the infill walls can permanently change shape and meet the effects of

earthquakes. One of the aims of the study is that the

beams are damaged significantly after the infill walls have completely

collapsed and the columns remain in the linear elastic region. In this context, a series of results have been obtained by

making nonlinear analyzes on the structure with a finite element model that can

fully reflect the property of infill walls. It

was observed that two of the bearing elements of the structure used in the

study were in advanced damage level. However,

the presence of the infill walls in the building immediately reduced these two

heavily damaged elements to the level of use. It was observed that the infill walls were the first damaged element and

then the beams were damaged during the earthquake. As a result, it has been suggested that infill walls

should be taken into account in the design or performance analysis of

structural systems.
