Effect of Low and High Frequency Positive Pulsed Charging Currents on Aging and Capacity Fadesin Lithium-Ion Batteries
Özet
In Energy Storage Systems (ESS) containing Lithium-Ion (Li-ion) battery packs,
different charging techniques have been developed in recent years to both extend
battery life and reduce capacity losses. The constant current constant voltage (CCCV) method is frequently used among battery charging profiles. However, some of
the scientific studies conducted in recent years have confirmed that pulsed charging
currents with adjustable duty cycle, frequency, and amplitude extend battery life and
reduce capacity losses. This study presents a comparison study based on CC-CV and
Positive Fixed Pulsed Current (PFPC) techniques for Li-ion batteries. CC-CV, PFPC
(𝑓𝑝 = 1𝐻𝑧), PFPC (𝑓𝑝 = 0.1𝐻𝑧), and PFPC (𝑓𝑝 = 10𝐻𝑧) charging techniques are
tested on a 12.8V, 40Ah Li-ion battery, and the results are compared in terms of
battery voltages, battery currents, State of Charge (SoC), temperature, aging, and
capacity losses. According to the test results, the low-frequency PFPC technique both
reduced capacity losses and aging factors and the performed lower charging time
performance.
