Micro-/Nano-Encapsulation and Encapsulation Applications
Özet
Micro-/nano-encapsulation involves coating of a gaseous, liquid, or solid material (i.e., core or active substance) with a secondary active material in capsules in a range of about 1 nm to 2000 µm. It protects the encapsulated active material at the desired place and time until it is released when appropriate or desired conditions occur or they have been mobilized to a desired location. The aim of micro-/nano-encapsulation is to give the active ingredient in the core of the capsule superior properties compared to its pure form. Basically, realizing all micro-/nano-encapsulation requires multi-disciplinary processing steps, all of the selected ingredient, shell material, formulation, and use. In this chapter, the methods, properties, and usage areas of micro-/nano-encapsulation are discussed.
