Effect of Zn-Ni Coating on Corrosion and Corrosion Fatigue Behavior of AISI 4140 steel
Özet
In this study, the effect of Zinc-Nickel alloy coating on the corrosion and corrosion fatigue behavior of AISI 4140
steel was investigated. An electrolyte composed of a 5% aqueous solution of NaCl was utilized. Tafel method was
used to compare the corrosion properties of the materials. Fatigue tests were performed on a four-point loaded
(R=-1) bending test machine at room temperature. Corrosion fatigue tests were performed with a "corrosion cell
system" integrated into the fatigue machine. The corrosive environment reduced the fatigue life of AISI 4140 steel.
The applied coating increased the corrosion fatigue resistance of the base material by an average of 7%. In the
experiments conducted in air environment, the application of Zn-Ni coating reduced the fatigue strength and
fatigue limit up to 9%.
