Özet

Membrane, one of the fundamental tools of the insulation industry, ensures the protection of

structures against the adverse effects caused by water. It is a suitable material used to enhance

the strength of buildings in basements, gardens, terraces, and roofs constructed in living

spaces. Additionally, membranes are used for structures exposed to different loads such as

bridges and viaducts. The increase in population-driven settlement plans necessitates the

continuous development of membrane production, and emphasizes the need for

producers/consumers to be more knowledgeable and aware in this regard.Among the different

types of membranes that vary according to their application areas, bituminous membranes are

the most common insulation material. Bituminous membranes are used to prevent water

penetration into the upper and lower parts of surfaces that are in permanent contact with

water. Proper use of membranes in building foundations is one of the most suitable methods

developed to eliminate factors that would cause corrosive effects on the structures. Many

studies have been conducted in membrane production technologies aimed at minimizing these

effects, and the development of high-performance, more corrosion-resistant membranes has

been one of the sector's main objectives. In this study, membrane technologies developed for

the purpose of protecting structures from moisture, corrosion caused by moisture, and various

factors that would harm the building foundation due to climatic conditions have been

investigated. Additionally, the acquisition of insulation materials blended with chemical

and/or polymer additives used in production has been examined, and their improving effects

have been researched. As a result, the aim was to recognize petroleum-derived membrane

materials, examine production methods, diversify them, and understand their areas of

application.
