Abstract With developing technology and industrialization, currently cities are faced with a range of environmental problems like environmental pollution (water, soil, noise and air pollution, etc.), lack of green space, drinking water problems, resource scarcity, traffic, large natural disasters, rapidly increasing population, radiation and carbon release. In the name of solving these problems, rapidly increasing in parallel with the increase in population, the concept of Smart Cities has been developed as future cities using technology at superior levels. Smart cities use many technological tools (internet of things, cloud computing, big data, etc.) to make urban management more effective, and contribute to founding the sustainable cities of the future by increasing quality of life. While founding the cities of the future, smart cities will provide solutions to the most important problems in cities with the aid of smart applications. Currently in addition to air, water, and soil pollution, noise, waste and carbon release (carbon footprint, ecological footprint, etc.) are among the most important problems in cities and the current concept of smart environment, a subfield of smart cities, has come to the agenda in the name of solving these problems. Spatial pollution modelling is among smart environmental applications and is used to measure the temporal and spatial amounts of pollutants, determine the source of pollutants, simulate future scenarios and ensure emergency precautions are taken for environmental health. Modelling of spatial pollution is based initially on temporal measurement of the pollutants in a certain area. Environmental pollutants are analyzed immediately in the area with a variety of methods or brought to the laboratory environment and determined amounts are uploaded to geographical information system (GIS) databases along with many other data. With the aid of GIS, spatial pollution maps are created to determine pollution levels and spatial pollution modelling is performed. 502 www.icanas.net ENG 4th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ADVANCES IN NATURAL & APPLIED SCIENCE ENGINEERING This research investigates in detail spatial pollution modelling within smart environmental applications presenting long-term solutions to significant environmental problems in cities. As a result of this research, how the targeted environmental pollutants are measured in the study area over time, how the measured data are uploaded to the GIS environment and how modelling is performed by using this data is explained. Within this scope, important current examples (air, surface water, soil) related to spatial pollution modelling are investigated. Thus, all the benefits of spatial pollution modelling within the smart cities concept are discussed in detail. Keywords: Smart Cities, Smart Environment, Field Pollution, Modeling
